People need to see that, far from being an obstacle, the world’s diversity of languages, religions and traditions is a great treasure, affording us precious opportunities to recognize ourselves in others.
Ah yes. Just like what’s going on in Iraq, right?
It seems that the world’s diversity of languages, religions and traditions mainly affords us previous opportunities to kill each other. But perhaps I am not as enlightened as musician Youssou N’Dour.
The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating – in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life.
Critical thinking is tyranny. Hesitation is fear. Your head is the barrier to your life. Commit… commit… commit…
Seriously, this is quite a mindfuck. “Remove your head as the barrier to your life?” They’re advocating outright subjection (or in weasel words, “commitment”) to free you from critical thinking and hesitation. I knew liberals fetishize the ideal of organization, but not that much! With a little rewrite, this could come straight off a cult sermon or a dictator’s speeches.
