Identification parades: another pseudo-scientific humbug in our “justice” system

Yes that’s right, not only are “lie detectors” humbug, not only are juries as lie detectors humbug, not only are eyewitness testimonies mostly humbug, not only are many new “forensic sciences” like bullet matching or forensic dentistry completely unproven pseudo-sciences, but line-ups are pseudo-science as well.

Psychologists Dr Hartmut Blank and Dr Jim Sauer, of the University of Portsmouth, have been awarded £100,000 to examine what may influence people when picking out a possible perpetrator in an identification parade.

Their initial research suggests that people are more likely to identify line-up members they dislike and less likely to identify someone they like.

Can you post some links backing up the fact that bullet-matching and forensic dentistry are pseudosciences? Because it’s the first time I hear that. If that is true though, wow, the cops really can do as they damn well please can’t they?

What, you really need me to tell you that cops can do whatever they want? I guess you missed the video I posted in the past about how cops lie.

I agree with you about juries, lie detectors and line-ups. I’m not sure that forensics is worse than “non-forensic circumstantial evidence” or “non-forensic corrobating evidence” or “police-oriented confession”, though.

“new “forensic sciences” like bullet matching or forensic dentistry completely unproven pseudo-sciences”

    All forensic sciences are pseudo-sciences?

And I agree with you about the fact that cops are fucking liars.
