Funfems: the cops, and men in general, are NOT your friends.

UPDATE: I have been criticized for supposedly insulting feminists with the title of this entry. I just want to be clear that I don’t consider anyone a feminist if they encourage women to submit to the male gaze, support pornography and prostitution, and so on. To me that’s just plain ol’ male exploitation of women supported by other women. This is why I call “funfems” with that name, not “feminists.”

***

(a note before I start: I am very well aware that there is such a thing as female cops… and they are not your friends either, no matter how nice they sound)

Every time I see funfems write positive comments about cops, my eyes bug out and I start to shake in pure horror. It is physically painful to me to try to fathom the depth of ignorance these women are in. What I am about to say will seem painfully obvious to any Anarchist, but please bear with me, as I am addressing people who don’t already know this…

There is no larger category of women-haters than cops in our Western societies. Cops routinely rape prostitutes under the threat of arresting them. Cops routinely beat up women, either in custody or out there, for their sexual thrills. There have been instances (such as recuperated factories in Argentina) where gangs of cops have beaten up groups of middle aged and old women.

These are just the facts. Google it or search on Youtube if you don’t believe me. This stuff is out there. Heck, all you have to do is look at the Occupy protests or the anti-Vietnam student protests if you want to see cops assaulting and shooting women half their size.

Apart from the specific gender issues, cops routinely lie to anyone in their custody to get them to confess anything they want. This is a known fact confirmed by lawyers and ex-cops:

Don’t Talk to Cops, Part 1
Don’t Talk to Cops, Part 2

Some videos I’ve posted of women getting beaten up by cops (and keep in mind, this is just the ones I’ve posted, and I don’t seek them out in any way):

Police Officer Beats Woman Severely in Shreveport
Doles Police Brutality Case, Pt.1
Schoolgirl savagely attacked for dropping a cake.
DNC Protests: Police slam CodePink protester to the ground
Police Brutality: Cop Slams Elderly Woman’s Head On The Concrete.
Police Brutality: 14 yr old girl Tasered in the Head

Funfems: pay particular attention to the videos. Go read the comments on Youtube on those videos. Do you see the monstrous hatred of women elicited by these actions? People who support the cops hate you. Do you get the message?

What I am especially worried about is that funfems will, by praising cops as their friends, lead many young women to be railroaded for crimes they didn’t commit. I think this is heinous.

The very concept of solidarity with cops is laughable: you can try to cozy up to cops all you want, but they see you as nothing but a possible target. They have the guns, and they have the power over you. They are a class separate from yours. If you commit a crime against a cop, you are likely to be beaten up and then tried with the most severe penalties possible for what you did. If a cop commits a crime against you, he will most likely get no trial and little or no punishment. Those of you who understand what privilege is and yet sympathize with cops: wake up!

The job of a cop is not to help you as a woman, or even as a human being. The job of a cop is to find someone to stick charges to. Everyone is fair game. Violence is fair game. Lying is fair game.

I find it equally horrifying when funfems think the rule of law are their friends. Cops can’t stop anyone from getting raped or killed, and they certainly don’t care about spousal abuse. The law has been used to oppress women for centuries… it can’t magically be turned from a tool of oppression to a tool for enforcing equality, which is a contradiction in itself.

This is only one instance of a more general “Good Guys Syndrome” that funfems seem to suffer from. They seem to believe that there is such a thing as guys who “get it” and genuinely see women as their equals.

I know that the belief in having male allies is heartening, but it’s just not true. I mean that’s just not how men work. Heterosexual men, no matter how “nice” they are, will always see women as sex objects (yes, even “sensitive” New Agers1). No matter how much a man understands the feminist arguments intellectually, it’s quite impossible for him to integrate them emotionally.

Rapists can be people in which you have complete trust, they can be your father, your brothers, your cousins, your husband, your boyfriends, your best friends. All men are potential rapists (if you want some proof of this, just look at the general male outrage against Rebecca Watson for daring to not want to be raped). You can’t know at all that a man is not a rapist until he has a chance to rape you.

And again, cops wouldn’t help you stop rapes even if they could, because they are rapists too. And if you get too annoying to them or refuse to do what they say, they can taser you, they can beat you up, they can mace you, and they can shoot you. So stop this bullshit of how great cops are and how you need cops.

Awesome post! I dislike funfems for those reasons and a shitton more! They are too reliant on the system. Emma Goldman was right when saying that the suffragettes were fighting for the wrong goals.

The link to the F-word article doesn’t work. I’m looking for a solid link to the “new age dude” article…No such luck. The best I could find as a substitute was this, from Democratic Underground: http://www.democraticunderground.com/11391081
At least there are some choice snippets in there to communicate the idea. Other attempts to find the article turned up nothing, unfortunately.

Ah, thank you. You’ve found an archived version. Wonder what happened…

You misunderstand the rule of law. The rule of law is an idea that the highest authority in the land is the law and not a man or woman. No one is above it and everyone is equal to it. What is wrong with the idea?

In practice, of course, it hasn’t worked, but as an idea it has led to a lot of progress. Whenever you find cops above the law, people avoiding the law, unjust statutes and courts not being impartial then the rule of law no longer exists. In America the rule of law has been dead for nearly a hundred years.

“You misunderstand the rule of law. The rule of law is an idea that the highest authority in the land is the law and not a man or woman.”

So… that doesn’t strike you as patently nonsensical and contradictory?

“No one is above it and everyone is equal to it. What is wrong with the idea?”

Well, what do you think is so great about it?
