    It’s a good video, but I don’t think she’s as controversial as she believes, being a queer theorist and all. On the one hand, gender is performative because drag queens and other males can take off their feminine adornments anytime they want – women can’t, at least not when it comes to work and the pressure felt when going out in public. And I’ve seen masculinity and macho-man stuff called “posturing,” which is code for posing or putting on an act. On the other, I can relate to gender being performative because femininity definitely feels fake and perfectionist. So gender is not an authentic representation of self, no matter how much one identifies with it.

      Yea, since I posted that video (a few months ago), I’ve come to understand that the theory presented there is only partially true. It certainly has the ring of truth. Truthiness, if you will. :)
