"No future triumph or metamorphosis can justify the pitiful blighting of a human being against his will." Peter Zapffe
Excellently presented and argued. I play Skyrim and you can’t help but see politics in it. I think games can be politically incorrect which makes me wonder about those who play them and see nothing wrong in it. It says more about us and what we are willing to put up with than anything. Games should be examined as art but considered art as entertainment, not serious art. Of course some graphic games designers might take issue with that.
It says a lot about what they want YOU to ignore.
I think all media is “serious” in the sense that it preaches messages about the world and about how to behave (whether the authors intend to preach such messages or not). When people say that a film or video game or book is “just entertainment” and “not to be taken seriously”, it is code for “don’t think too hard about it”. Well unfortunately for the violent media lovers of the world, I like to think. Deal with it.
And we all thank you for it. :)
